The FTC’s mission is to increase the family’s confidence in supporting child development.
The Family Training Center is a ‘School for Families’. It was born in the United Kingdom to receive and train parents, carers and educators to support child development in a pleasant, non-clinical setting.
The FTC’s founder, who has been working for 18 years as a Psychologist with children, adolescents and parents, says that ‘families would be better protected if they had simple guidelines to follow through the children’s developmental process, because the clinical psychology setting is avoided until a problem already exists. In the UK she observed small parenting workshops in schools and now brings this model to Portugal, adding the psychodynamic thinking expertise she developed at Tavistock and Portman and the University of Essex.
The Family Training Center delivers workshops based on a ‘theory plus practice’ approach to Child Development. Session by session parents, carers and educators are given the opportunity to share their questions and solutions, reaching a deeper understanding of their children. The themes have been developed based on previous experience with parents’, carers’ and educators’ biggest developmental concerns and promote an increasingly conscious parenting participation.
Workshops are developed through partnerships in three settings:
